On the southern shores of Lake Garda, lying like a fan on the first circle of the morainic amphitheatre, Desenzano is an enchanting town and pleasant seaside resort. In the Middle Ages it was the subject of bitter battles between Brescia and Verona, in the fifteenth century it then came under the dominion of Venice, becoming a flourishing commercial center in the modern era. The heart of the city rises around Piazza Malvezzi and the Porto Vecchio, embellished by the sixteenth-century buildings of the Brescian architect Giulio Todeschini.
